Bohemia

Written by Opal Peachey and Mark Siano, with original music composed by Peachey, Siano and Dayton Allemann.

Bohemia is a new musical set in 1890s Prague that combines the music of Dvořák and Chopin, with art by Alphonse Mucha. Historic artists like Sarah Bernhardt, George Sand, and Oscar Wilde interweave with green fairies, aerial numbers, dance, burlesque, classical piano battles, comedy, and a traditional absinthe service for the audience.

Famous Czech composer Antonin Dvořák (Siano) has hit a wall and prior to composing his magnum opus he looks to the bottom of a bottle of absinthe for inspiration. In this macabre and mystical dream cabaret Dvořák is visited by the ghost of late composer Frédéric Chopin (Peachey). Chopin and many other famous Bohemians guide Dvořák as they search for the true source of inspiration and grasp at artistic immortality.

Written in collaboration with the immersive dinner theater Nordo, Bohemia premiered at the Culinarium in 2015 including three course Czech dinner and Parisian table side absinthe service, by the Green Fairies themselves. The production won a Gypsy Rose Lee Award from the Seattle Theater Group for Excellence in Composing. Bohemia was remounted in 2017 at The Triple Door, including the absinthe service, and has played to sold out houses every January through 2023.

In the fall of 2022, Siano and Peachey produced The Cabaret Exchange, which took the production to the Ballhaus Berlin for a sold-out run of shows. Bohemia also starred local Berlin talent in the role of Sarah Bernhardt, as well as the lighting design, fulfilling the dream of collaborating with cabaret artists abroad, as well as in Seattle.
